STEAM Education Field Trips

The Central BC Railway and Forestry Museum provides an informative and enjoyable STEAM, and curriculum based experience on the relevance and impact of resource extraction, or on the types of power that locomotives and rolling stock use on site.

Students of all ages will encounter a memorable and educational experience.

Important Things to Know Before You Book

  • Bookings depend on the current Covid-19 restrictions.
  • Includes an Education Program.
  • - Choose a program which would best suit your class from our School Programs listed below.
  • - Please allow 1 hour for the tour/programming.
  • We have several covered spaces for classes to eat lunch. If your party wishes to have a scheduled lunch, please note this in your session booking form.
  • Please note that you would like to add the Cottonwood Express Minirail to your School Field Trip on your booking form.
  • - Please allow 15 minutes per 10/15 children for the minirail when planning your trip to the museum.

Natural Resources & Extraction

The Natural Resources and Extraction program offers information on the relationship between people and the environment. Students will acquire knowledge on the ways in which we shape the local environment, and how our location shapes who we are and how we live. The program includes a variety of interactive ways to learn such as worksheets, hands on learning, as well as a tour of the equipment previously used to extract natural resources in Northern British Columbia.

Energy & Machines

The Energy and Machines educational program teaches students about the energy, force, and the technological innovations of the railway industry in Northern British Columbia. Moreover, the program offers information on the types of energy in relation to locomotives, as well as the impact of energy transformation on the environment. In addition, the education program includes a variety of interactive ways to learn such as worksheets, hands on activities, as well as a tour of the various ways in which railway equipment is powered in Northern British Columbia.

Forestry History

The History of Forestry in Northern British Columbia program provides students with the opportunity to learn about how forestry has developed across time. In addition, the program will teach participants about how trees are harvested, and the technology used in the process of extraction. Moreover, the education program includes a variety of interactive ways to learn such as worksheets, hands on activities, as well as a tour of the forestry equipment that was utilized in Northern British Columbia.

Guided Exploration

Join one of our guides as they take you on a tour of the museums eight-acre park. You will explore 50 pieces of forestry and railway equipment as well as over 10 heritage buildings.
You will learn all about the interconnected nature of forestry and railway in Central and Northern BC.
This tour can be customized for any age and interests.
